JAY-Z Creates Original Material to be Released in Conjunction With Universal Pictures and Imagine Entertainment’s American Gangster

On November 6, Roc-A-Fella Records and JAY-Z will release the new album AMERICAN GANGSTER. Separate from the official motion picture soundtrack, this collection of all-new original material is a musical journey and lyrical interpretation of snapshots from the upcoming motion picture American Gangster, which pairs Oscar® winners Denzel Washington and Russell Crowe. Based on the true story of criminal mastermind Frank Lucas, who came up from the streets of New York in the ’70s, the film is produced by Academy Award®-winning producer Brian Grazer and directed and produced by Ridley Scott. It opens on November 2.

The conceptual, full body of work from the new album balances the line between pure entertainment and real life. JAY-Z draws upon past experiences, speaking to the harsh reality of the drug trade still taking place in our nation's cities. While not glorifying the Frank Lucas story, JAY-Z articulates the lure of a gangster's life and stands as an example of one who chose to leave those streets behind to go on and become one of the most successful entrepreneurs of our time.

Been listening to it (promo) and its definitely got some quality tracks. Songs that we already know and appreciate too.

Track 10 Sensimellia feat. Roache Killer really stands out cause Roache gots a voice. I thought it was Garnett Silk or Ras Shiloh (more Ras Shiloh)... ok ok the track is another mariajuana anthem so I wouldn't go into that again...

Track 14 the Come Around remix is rally done well to... production separates all verses so you can really hear everyones take on the topic... yeah yeah its a song about marijuana too...

And i am very pleased that Love Deh was included on the album... Its good to hear Massive B's "No Borders" riddim truly crossing the borders now...

Stephen Marley Album Release

GRAMMY WINNER STEPHEN MARLEY TO CELEBRATE RELEASE OF DEBUT ALBUM MIND CONTROL WITH PERFORMANCE AND AUTOGRAPH SIGNING AT J&R MUSIC AND COMPUTER WORLD ON TUESDAY, MARCH 20, 2007 at 12:30PM

Five time Grammy winning producer, singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist Stephen Marely, Bob Marley’s second son, will make a special appearance at J&R Music and Computer World to perform and sign autographs in celebration of his debut album Mind Control on the day of it’s release, Tuesday, March 20, 2007 at 12:30PM. Mind Control is a blend of reggae, rock, R&B, nyabinghi rhythms, flamenco and hip-hop.

Stephen Marley, first appeared on record in 1979 at the tender age of six when he and his younger brother Ziggy recorded the single "Children Playing in the Streets," for charity with the profits going to the United Nations to aid efforts during the International Year of the Child. The single would also mark the beginnings of the Ziggy-fronted Melody Makers, a band that included Stephen and his other siblings. Stephen played a supportive role in the Melody Makers from the beginning as guitarist, singer, and occasional songwriter and would go on to work behind the scenes in production. Over the course of his career, Stephen has worked with Eve, Krayzie Bone and Erykah Badu.

In 2001, his production work for brother Damian's Halfway Tree helped win the Grammy for Best Reggae Album. In the year 2006, Stephen scored his fifth GRAMMY award for his co-production work on brother Damian “Jr.Gong” Marley’s acclaimed RIAA certified Gold disc Welcome To Jamrock, garnering him more GRAMMY awards than any other Reggae artist in history.

Mind Control is Stephen’s highly anticipated debut album, placing him center stage for the first time in his 27 year career.
